Whiskey is such a recognizable beverage it almost seems ridiculous to pose the question in the title. Nevertheless, in spite of having been around for many centuries, the majority of folks only know it by name and taste but very little else about this golden beverage.

Since it has been around for centuries, you would think that the issue of exactly what Vodka liquor is would have been settled a long time since. However, within the European community, officials have recently been debating that very question in order to establish legal definitions in respect of trade and what and what cannot be legally called Vodka.

As far back as the first century AD, Tequila liquor, in some form or the other, has been made from the local agave plant. The name Tequila derives from the name Ticuilas, which referred to a local Indian tribe discovered by the Spanish who landed in Mexico back in the sixteenth century.

In simplistic terms, rum is distilled liquor made from molasses but that description does little justice to the complexity of this wonderful drink both from an historical standpoint and in every other way. First, the alcohol content can vary anywhere from forty to seventy percent or more although the first figure is the most common. There are also several color variations ranging from perfectly clear through light amber to a very dark brown. There are taste variations between the different types as well. All these differences, to a degree, can be explained by the different historical origins of rum liquor.

There is no limit to the resourcefulness of mankind. Anybody who could look at a juniper bush and think: "Do you know what, I think the fruit from that tree would make a great addition to an excellent liquor" just has to be some kind of genius. Adding the juice to distilled grains has created Gin, which is a beverage popular for centuries.

In layman’s terms, Cognac Liquor is simply brandy with a different name. However, to the connoisseurs of this fine spirit, that statement could not be further from the truth. It is not for nothing that this quality liquor is as well known and widely appreciated the world over as champagne.
