For the next month, until July 24, 2006, Cafe Avion Coffee Roasting Co. is donating $1 to the Ninety-Nines for every pound it sells of its new "Aviatrix" blend. The Ninety-Nines annual scholarship supports and encourages the advancement of women in aviation. Each year this unique fund for female pilots covers a lucky applicants entire cost of flight training or tuition to complete their certificates, ratings, and coursework.
The Ninety-Nines established their scholarship fund in 1940 to honor Amelia Earharts memory and carry on her love of flying. From a single scholarship of $125 in 1941, the annual fund has grown to help over 400 women from six countries to advance and succeed in aviation and aerospace.
Cafe Avion, a premium organic coffee roasting company, is launching their new organic and fair trade coffee blend by supporting something they feel strongly about. Says Denver Wilkinson, founder of Cafe Avion, "There is really no better way to promote our product than by supporting aviation, something we are very passionate about. The Ninety Nines is a great organization to support."
The Ninety-Nines, founded in 1929 by well-known female pilots of the time, is an international organization of licensed women pilots from 35 countries with some 6,000 members. One of their missions is to provide networking and scholarship opportunities to women in the community. Each year, The Ninety-Nines awards several scholarships and awards to qualified applicants for their aviation education and flight training.
