DeLonghi EC155 Espresso Machine Review
The DeLonghi EC155 espresso machine is generally regarded as a mid-level espresso maker rather
than top of the range. I can only suppose that point of view must be based upon the low cost by itself since,
when it comes to the list of features, the EC155 is far from being just another espresso machine.
The impressive feature list begins with the EC155's professional appearance. While the fact remains that those
interested in an excellent shot are more interested in great functionality, an espresso machine is also an
appliance, so why not have something attractive in the kitchen.
The Delonghi EC155 boasts a professional pump-driven mechanism which very few coffee machines in the same price
range offer. Generally, more affordable coffee making machines tend to be
driven by steam, which restricts how much pressure they are able to deliver. Experienced baristas know that truly
high pressure is a huge help for making an exceptional brew. Producing 15-bar from the pump, this particular model
will not fall short in that area.
DeLonghi EC155 Boiler
In contrast to various professional designs, the boiler is stainless steel as opposed to brass. However that is
to be expected in a mid level model since brass would increase the cost significantly. Nobody will have any reason
to be dissatisfied with the results, though because the DeLonghi EC155 makes an exceptional brew. Temperature
control is not quite as consistent with stainless steel, but when the machine is well made the difference is
One reason is the EC155's twin function filter holder. This innovative mechanism allows air to enter during the
brewing process, producing a superior crema.
With a one-liter (35 oz) detachable water tank, you will be ready to make plenty of it, as well. Because it is
easily removed, cleanup is a lot quicker. Many espresso machine owners become a little lax regarding mineral build
up and some models can be a pain to de-calcify. However, with a completely removable water tank, there is
absolutely no reason to forego the effort. Simply pour on a little white vinegar and baking soda mixture in the
sink and voila - No more calcium carbonate.
The DeLonghi EC155 Espresso Machine also holds ESE - Easy Serving Espresso pods that allow you to create a first
rate brew with a low-grade effort.
DeLonghi EC155 Frothing Wand
There are several other convenience features on the machine, including a swivel jet frother, which makes it easy
to add a great foamy touch to your cup. For some people, it may be just a little close to the counter top and the
same goes for the spigot as well. That is less than ideal, but very easily resolved. Simply put a nice-looking
wooden or marbled block on the countertop, then the EC155 on the block. Style along with functionality nicely
combined. Needless to say, if you are using regular sized espresso and frother cups, even that is not required
Those are trivial limitations for a coffee machine that creates a great brew, at such a modest cost. There is
certainly nothing modest regarding its goal, to create a great espresso that is first rate every time. The DeLonghi
EC155 Espresso Machine succeeds at this mission with ease making it a great value espresso maker.
