Roasting Coffee Beans
Coffee beans in their natural state are green and virtually tasteless. The process of roasting coffee beans
releases the flavor, sweetness and aroma of the beans that coffee connoisseurs around the world know and love.
There are various levels of roasting including light, medium and dark. Lightly roasted coffee beans tend to
mimic the taste of green un-roasted beans whereas the taste of a dark roast is a lot more intense. During the
roasting process, various chemical reactions take place that are ultimately responsible for the flavour, richness
and aromatics of the coffee itself.
Coffee bean roasting is an art and science that takes a long time to perfect especially since no two batches of
coffee beans are ever the same, even when they are grown on the same farm.
